CALL FOR PROPOSALS for implementation of Local Pilot Activities with vulnerable groups in Ohrid and Struga

Following the Training 1 and based on its process and methodology, 11 Local Pilot Activities (LPA) will be implemented in Ohrid and Struga, in the period between the end of February ‘14 till the beginning of May 2014.

WHO CAN APPLY FOR A LPA?
Artists and other creative professionals who have previously participated in the whole duration of the Training 1 (held in Ohrid, between 15-19.01.2014) can submit a proposal for their own LPA with a specific vulnerable group. Only the proposals of the artists/creative professionals who have gone through the Training 1 will be rendered/deemed eligible for support.

WHERE AND WHEN CAN A LPA TAKE PLACE?
A Local Pilot Activity can take place on the territory of Ohrid and/or Struga municipalities. Ideally it has to take place in the period between the end of February till the beginning of May 2014.

WHAT SHOULD BE THE CONTENT, AIM AND METHOD OF A LPA?
A Local Pilot Activity should be consisted of a series of min 8 to max 10 workshops, in which the artist meets with her/his group of participants and works with them; preferably, each workshop should be with duration of min. 1,5 to max 2 hours. A Local Pilot Activity’s content has to be artistically based, either in one or in several different artistic media. Through the artistic means the LPA needs to provide a context and psychologically safe space for the participant(s)-member(s) of a particular vulnerable group, to open up, express creatively and thus enhance their self-esteem and self-confidence. Methodologically the LPA needs to be based on the Participatory Arts/Social Sculpture method presented within the Training 1. Ideally, where possible, each proposed LPA should be meant for a group-work and structured accordingly. However, if there are no conditions for implementing a group-process and yet the argumentation for the identified need of a particular group is strong, the LPA process and approach can be individually based (i.e. the artist in charge can work with single representative of a vulnerable group or with several members).
WHAT SHOULD BE THE PROPOSAL’S CONTENT?
The candidates should make the proposal according to the following pattern:
1.       Describe the specific vulnerable group that you intend to work with;
2.       What specific goals (both artistic and psychosocial/educational) do you set for your artistic
process with the chosen vulnerable group, in the framework of your local pilot activity and
beyond?;
3.        What artistic media do you plan to use in the process? In case of mix of two or more media
(for ex. music, performance and photography), how do you envision combining the diverse
artistic media?;
4.       What materials will you need for the LPA-both in the process, final presentation and (if
applicable) post-production? (When planning the materials, please keep in mind the ceiling of 200 Euro for the budget line ‘workshop materials’ per single LPA.);
5.       What is the approximate ideal date for start of your LPA? Do you need filed visit(s) prior the
start of your LPA?;
6.       Please, write few paragraphs about your personal motivation to artistically work with specific target group that you’ve chosen.
HOW MANY LPAs CAN A CANDIDATE APPLY FOR?
The candidate can send as many proposals as he/she likes. However, max two different proposals for Local Pilot Activities can be approved per individual artist.

HOW MANY ARTISTS CAN BE INVOLVED IN A SINGLE LPA?
Single artist can be in charge, and contracted, per LPA. However, he/she can involve one or several assistants. In case assistants are involved, they too should fulfill the criteria of this Call, i.e. they should have participated in Training 1. Assistants’ work will be voluntary and thus free of charge.

WHAT ARE THE TERMS OF THE ORGANIZER?
C.C. Media Artes will cover the materials (up to 200 euro per LPA), local travel costs linked to the direct activities on the spot, as well as the artist’s fee (up to 220 euro gross amount per artist per LPA).

Joker Training 1 – Forum Theatre and the Aesthetics of the Oppressed

Hosted and organized by C.C. Media Artes, “Joker Training 1 – Forum Theatre and the Aesthetics of the Oppressed” international project took place in hotel “Belvedere” Ohrid, between 13-21.03.2010.  29  participants coming from Wales, Austria, Bulgaria, Romania, Albania, Serbia, Bosnia and Herzegovina and Macedonia were involed in the training.

The training was first in a series of advanced trainings in which 8 countries and partner organizations are involved and which aims to bring together European operators who have been working with Theatre of the Oppressed (TO) in the last few years with young people, and some of the young people who they are mentoring to become Jokers. In the wider context of the project the partner organizations happen to develop a network of young Creative Citizens who are supported, through ongoing training and mentoring, to work with their communities through TO.

Being part of the TO armory, Forum Theatre (FT) is a specific body of techniques designed to teach people how to take an active role in their community through finding solutions to a problem in their particular community, whether it be environmental, social, political, economic.
Recognised by the UN through UNESCO as an official “tool for social change”, FT is an enormously beneficial and useful bank of innovative techniques, used all over the world to influence legislation and encourage the building of more civil societies through the cultivation of an engaged and enlightened citizenry, respectful of human rights and responsibilities.
The training participants publicly shared their group-work by making 2 cultural events for the local community, in the afternoon and evening of March 18th in which the audience took an active part. These events were Social Action and Forum Theatre performance.

  The project was realized with the support of Youth in Action program of the European Commission.
